Murder Perpetrator Unknown to Police

Ekrem Delic, former policeman, told the Cantonal Court in Zenica that he arrived at the crime scene after Poletan had been killed.

“When I arrived to the house yard, the body was covered with some blanket. Several policemen, including the indictees, were present in the yard. I entered the house. Jasmin Mehinagic and Dajic followed me. I stayed inside briefly. I did not take anything. I went out, but they stayed inside,” Delic said.  

Fadil Dajic, also known as Dedo, and Vahid Hadrovic are charged with having participated in the abuse and murder of Sekula Poletan while confiscating weapons in Plandiste village, near Kakanj, on June 9, 1993.   

Witness Mijo Sain, who worked at the Police Station in Kakanj in the summer of 1993, said that he did not remember this event.

When presented with an entry from a diary of events dated June 10, 1993, the witness said that it was not his handwriting.

“I only heard rumours related to the murder of Sekula Poletan. Rumours said that a soldier killed him,” Sain said, adding that Hadrovic’s name was never mentioned.

The only pieces of evidence presented by the Defence of Fadil Dajic, who tried to conclude a guilt admission agreement at the beginning of the hearing, were medical documents with which the Defence wanted to prove that the indictee was severely ill.  

The trial is due to continue on May 13.
