Former policeman Zlatko Hrgota recalled having participated, along with indictee Hadrovic and other policemen, in a terrain search operation in Plandiste in June 1993.

He said that he had gone to his house in order to check if his family was safe before the group of policemen arrived at Sekula Poletan’s house, so he did not see what happened.

“I heard from a colleague later on that Sekula had been killed. I was caught by surprise. The only thing I know from the first pieces of information I received is that he was killed by a military policeman known as Dedo,” Hrgota said, adding that he did not see indictee Dajic in Plandiste on that day.

Fadil Dajic, known as Dedo, and Vahid Hadrovic are charged with having participated in the abuse and murder of Sekula Poletan in Plandiste village, near Kakanj, during a weapon confiscation operation on June 9, 1993.

Witness Serif Ramovic, former Deputy Commander of the Police Station in Kakanj, said that he could not remember Poletan’s death, because “the situation was chaotic” in 1993 and policemen “went from one place to another continuously”.

“I cannot remember whether I went to the front line that day or whether a crime scene inspection was conducted. I do not think that it could be done by police, because those things were done by the Army. Policemen were subordinate to the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, so police could have eventually just guarded the crime scene,” Ramovic said.

Ramovic told the Court that he did not remember the killed man’s wife asking him to help her.

Pavo Mijoca, former burial company driver, who transported Poletan’s body to a morgue, was invited to testify at this hearing as well. The Defence wanted to examine him about the condition in which the corpse was. However, the Defence attorneys gave up examining the witness after it had been determined that, due to his old age he was not able to remember the events from 1993.

The trial of Dajic and Hadrovic is due to continue on April 16, when the two last Defence witnesses will testify.
