Torbica, a former military policeman, said that, early one morning Sead Modronja came to him and said that Solo was attacked and that it was probably done by Vojvoda, i.e. Sretko Dragic.

“After that I went with Sead to the house, in which Solo was. Zoran Bujic opened the door. I asked him about Adil. He said that he was there. When I asked him who was in charge, he said it was Sretko,” Torbica said.

As he said, when he entered the room, he saw “Sretko Dragic and his girlfriend, Zoran Torbica, Vukaljevic, Gnjatic and Jojic. All of them kept quiet”.

The indictment alleges that Sretko Dragic, Zoran Torbica, Dalibor Jojic and Dragan Gnjatic are charged with having abused, intimidated and unlawfully deprived Imam Adil Solo of liberty in the Prijedor area in March 1993.

When asked by Jojic’s attorney Drasko Zeca whether his client was in the room, the witness explained that Jojic entered, while he was in the corridor.

“Adil’s face was covered with blood. He had bruises underneath his eyes. Zoran Bujic gave me a cap. I took Adil away after that. I asked Solo why they had attacked him, but he said that he did not know, adding that Sretko and his lover beat him from his back. I escorted Adil to the school building and then home,” Torbica explained.

This witness was not able to speak due to health problems, so he wrote his answers on paper during the examination. The papers were then shown on monitors in the courtroom.

District Prosecutor Igor Cimesa read a statement given by Saima Solo, the injured party’s wife, who has since died.

In her statement given to police she said that her husband was in Zagreb and that she began worrying when he failed to come home in the evening. She called all neighbours and friends, but nobody knew anything about him.

As she said, the following morning Mustafa Mahmun came and told her where Solo was. The witness said that she saw her husband Adil in front of that house, adding that he was covered with blood and that he had a cross-like cut on his forehead.

She said that she could recognise him by his eyes only. Later on he told her that he was attacked by 12 people and that Slavko Torbica saved him.

The trial is due to continue on February 19.
