In 2022, the Bosnian prosecution charged 60 people with war crimes, although ten of them are outside the country so can’t be brought to trial – a problem that the new chief prosecutor has promised to tackle.

The Bosnian court upheld the five-month prison sentences handed down to three members of a Serb nationalist Chetnik organisation who were convicted of inciting hatred at a rally in the town of Visegrad in 2019.

The Bosnian court upheld the acquittal of two former policemen and three Bosnian Serb Army ex-soldiers, clearing them of involvement in the murders of at least 57 Bosniak civilians in the village of Zaklopaca in 1992.

Two former Bosnian Serb Army soldiers, Marinko Vidovic and Pero Vujovic, were charged with committing a crime against humanity over the execution of 20 civilians in the village of Ljesevo, near Ilijas, in 1992.

Former soldier Radovan Veljovic was sentenced to seven years in prison for raping a women during a “widespread and systematic” attack by Bosnian Serb forces in the Foca area in 1992.

Seven former Bosnian Serb Army soldiers were sentenced to a total of 91 years in prison for their role in abducting 20 passengers from a train at Strpci station in Bosnia in February 1993 and then killing them.

Ratko Djurkovic, wartime commander of the First Battalion of the Bosnian Serb Army’s First Majevica Brigade, was acquitted of failing to prevent six killings in a village near Teocak in 1992.

Bosnian Serb Army ex-soldier Mile Stojanovic is charged with participating in the illegal detention of around 150 Bosniak civilians, two of whom died, in the Rajlovac area, near Sarajevo, in 1992.
27. September 2022.
Djordje Ristanic, head of the Serb wartime leadership in Brcko in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, was cleared of participation in a joint criminal enterprise to persecute Bosniaks and Croats.
