The cantonal court in Zenica on Tuesday convicted former Bosnian Army serviceman Dajic and former policeman Hadrovic of killing a civilian called Sekula Poletan in Plandiste on June 3, 1993.

Policeman Hadrovic hit the victim on the head with his fist and rifle butt, then Bosnian Army serviceman Dajic shot him, the court found.

The judge said that the prosecution witnesses – former comrades of the defendants who witnessed the crime – had given credible testimonies.

“The defence witnesses were not eyewitnesses and the findings of the ballistics expert did not bring into the question the findings of the forensics expert,” said presiding judge Nermin Tesnjak.

Explaining the length of the sentence, Tesnjak said that the court took into account the fact that the killing was committed without cause or reason.

The verdict can be appealed at the Federation entity’s supreme court.
