When it comes to a ban on leaving his place of residence, Prosecutor Dzevad Muratbegovic proposed that police visit the indictee at his house randomly once a week, instead of him going to the Police Station in Visegrad, as has been the case so far.
“He has two brothers in Serbia. He might flee abroad,” Muratbegovic said.
According to the charges, confirmed by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 9 this year, Rackovic, former member of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, is charged with having participated in attacks against Bosniak villages in Visegrad municipality from May to the end of August 1992.
The Prosecution alleges that Rackovic participated in detention, torture, forced disappearances of persons, rape and other inhumane acts. Some of the persons, who were unlawfully arrested, went missing without trace. Bodies of some civilians were exhumed at the “Slap” location in Zepa in 2000.
The Defence of Rackovic considers that the prohibiting measures requested by the State Prosecution were too strict.
“Rackovic neither has the motive nor the possibility to leave Visegrad. His health is poor. He is a diabetic. He has to visit a doctor every day,” Defence attorney Petko Pavlovic said, adding that his client had been co-operative so far.
The Court will render its decision at a later stage.
