Former Bosnian Serb fighters Zeljko Rakic, Ranko Rakic and Marko Stankovic have been charged with the murder of civilian Zuhra Husanovic in the village of Kucice in the municipality of Zavidovici in late August or early September 1992.
Cantonal prosecution witness Veselin Obradovic said his father-in-law asked him to help out Zeljko Rakic. Obradovic said they were together every day since May 1992.
“Zeljko lived in another town, so he had to travel an hour to get to work. I proposed he stay at my place. We used to see each other every day at a construction site as well, because we worked for the same company,” Obradovic said.
Obradovic said he took some belongings and money to Rakic’s family in Serbia. Rakic himself couldn’t travel because he was a refugee.
Obradovic presented his passport and visa in order to confirm he was in Germany during the time period covered by the indictment.
Judge Enes Malicbegovic said documents which had been submitted to the court to demonstrate Rakic’s presence in Germany had been sent to a competent ministry to determine their authenticity.
Zeljko Rakic’s defense will examine two more witnesses, who are also expected to provide an alibi for the defendant.
The trial will continue on September 21.
