Ostojic’s defense attorney, Dragan Gotovac, said that his client had trouble with his blood pressure two days ago and had to go to the emergency room. Gotovac said his client had additional check-ups today.

“I don’t know if it’s a virus or something else,” Gotovac said. He said this was the first time his client failed to appear in the courtroom.

The district prosecution requested that the defendant be ordered into custody.

Trial chamber chairwoman Zinaida Husic said the defense has seven days to submit medical documents with regards to Ostojic’s illness.

Ostojic has been charged with participating in the abuse of prisoners in the Susica camp near Vlasenica as a reserve police officer in 1992.

The trial will continue on June 17.
