Alics Prison Sentence Reduced to Eight Years

After the Constitutional Court abolished the verdict which sentenced Alic to ten years of prison for crimes against prisoners of war committed in the territory of Krajina, due to the wrong implementation of the Criminal Code, the Third Instance Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina partially adopted the appeal filed by Alices defence, and reduced his sentence by two years, implementing the Criminal Code of former Yugoslavia, instead of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the verdict, Alic is sentenced as assistant commander of the Hamza Battalion with the Fifth Corp of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina for participating in abuse of four imprisoned members of the Army of Srpska Krajina in August 1995.
The time Alice spent in custody and already serving his sentence would be subtracted from the new sentence.
According to the first instance verdict, Alic was acquitted of all charges, but the Second Instance Chamber sentenced him to ten years of prison. His defence appealed to the Third Instance Chamber, which confirmed the second degree verdict.
However, after that the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina abolished this sentence due to the wrong implementation of the law, after which Alics serving of the sentence was cancelled.
