Dragoje Zmijanjac was sentenced to six years in prison for committing crimes against civilians, convicted of murdering a Bosniak man in Prijedor in 1992. The state court in Sarajevo on Monday found Dragoje Zmijanjac guilty of taking Bosniak civilian Halil Dedic from his house in Prijedor in July 1992 and shooting him dead.

The defence lawyer for Zeljko Ilic, one of three former policeman accused of crimes against humanity in the Bileca area in 1992, called for his client to be acquitted.

The trial of Dragoja Zmijanjac began with a reading of the indictment and the presentation of introductory statements by the defense and the prosecution. Zmijanjac has been charged with crimes against humanity in the Prijedor area.

The state prosecution announced at a status conference that negotiations on an admission of guilt for crimes committed in the Prijedor area had begun, as per an initiative taken by the defense of Dragoja Zmijanjac.
