If the defendant and the prosecution fail to come to an agreement, prosecutor Izet Odobasic said he intended on examining eight witnesses, some of whom would testify via video link because they live abroad.

The prosecution also plans to examine a medical expert and present material evidence. According to Odobasic, the prosecution will need approximately 11 hours for its presentation of evidence.

Zmijanjac’s defense said it would announce its evidence presentation plan, if applicable, once the state prosecution had completed its presentation of its evidence.

Zmijanjac has been charged with killing a Bosniak civilian and threatening his family members as a member of an unidentified unit. He allegedly dressed in a camouflage uniform and carried an automatic rifle.

The state prosecution previously announced that the family Zmijanjac threatened was taken to the Trnopolje detention camp, where they suffered severe torture and abuse. They were then deported from Prijedor.

Zmijanjac was arrested on December 23, 2015, but was released and allowed to defend himself while at liberty under prohibitive measures.

The trial chamber said the trial would begin on March 7.
