The appeals chamber of the Bosnian state court has confirmed a verdict which sentences Ibro Macic, a former member of the Bosnian Army’s military police and a former guard in the Musala detention camp, to ten years in prison for crimes committed in the Konjic area.

Former military policeman Edhem Zilic was charged with war crimes against civilians in the Konjic area, including the beating and abuse of Croat and Serb detainees.

The cantonal court of Mostar has sentenced Esad Gakic and Ramo Zilic to a total of five and a half years in prison. Gakic has been sentenced to one year and a half in prison, while Zilic has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Radivoje Soldo was sentenced to five years in prison for unlawfully detaining and repeatedly raping a Bosniak woman inside a Bosnian Serb Army camp in the Konjic area in 1992.

The state prosecution called upon the appeals chamber of the Bosnian state court to increase the sentence against Ibro Macic. Macic’s defense requested that the court either renew the trial or hand down an acquittal.

Under the terms of a plea bargain, Radivoje Soldo was sentenced to between four and a half years to six years in prison for rape in the Konjic area.

Presenting its closing statement before the cantonal court of Mostar, the prosecution called upon the court to find Ramo Zilic and Esad Gakic guilty of war crimes in the Konjic area. The defense proposed a verdict of release.

A prosecution witness testifying at the Esad Gakic and Ramo Zilic trial said no prisoners were abused during his term as prison manager at the Musala prison facility in Konjic.

A state prosecution witness testifying at the Zeljko Stanarevic trial described how the Bosniak population fled Kulen Vakuf under artillery fire from the Bosnian Serb Army. Stanarevic has been charged with war crimes in the Bihac area.

Radivoje Soldo, charged with rape in the Konjic area, submitted a proposal for plea bargaining with the Bosnian state prosecution.
