Former Croatian Defence Council military policeman Edin Sakoc denied raping a female prisoner in Pocitelj in July 1992. Edin Sakoc told the state court in Sarajevo on Friday that he was never alone with the victim and did not rape her.

A defence witness said former policeman Ivica Cutura, who is on trial for the murders, inhumane treatment and unlawful detention of Bosniak civilians, had helped him and could not be guilty.

Former HVO member Edin Sakoc faces charges of sexual abuse and participation in murders in the Capljina area of Bosnia.

At the trial of four ex-policemen accused of involvement in a deadly raid in the Capljina municipality in July 1993, a prosecution witness testified about the capture of Bosniaks during the operation.

A prosecution witness told the genocide trial of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Zvornik Brigade commander that he heard that captives from Srebrenica were brought to the Zvornik area and executed.

Testifying at the trial of four defendants charged with crimes in the municipality of Capljina, two state prosecution witnesses said people were taken away from villages in the vicinity of Capljina to the Gabela detention camp in July 1993.

Edin Sakoc, a former member of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO), has been extradited from the United States due to suspicions that he committed war crimes in Pocitelj and Capljina.
