“I guarantee that I’m not guilty of any of the charges and I shall prove that during the course of this trial,” said defendant Goran Maksimovic.
Goran Maksimovic, Ljiljan Mitrovic, Slavko Peric, Mile Vujevic, Vukasin Draskovic, Gojko Stevanovic, Cvjetko Popadic, Rajo Lazarevic, and Mico Manojlovic plead not guilty to the murder of 67 civilians in the village of Lokanj in the summer of 1992.
The indictment was confirmed on February 10 of this year. The indictment alleges that Maksimovic was the commander and Mitrovic the deputy commander of the Interventions Unit of the Public Safety Station in Ugljevik. Peric was the commander of the Lokanjska Company of the Zvornicka Brigade of the Bosnian Serb Army, while the other defendants were members of military forces in the Zvornik area.
Radivoje Djordjic was originally indicted under the same indictment, but the Bosnian state court rendered a decision to separate his case due to his poor health. Djordjic is currently in hospital.
The trial of the nine remaining defendants will begin in the upcoming trial period. They have been ordered to abide by prohibitive measures.
