Tatarevic and Omazic Sentenced for War Crimes in Brcko

The Basic Court of Brcko District found Asmir Tatarevic and Armin Omazic, former members of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, guilty of crimes against civilians and prisoners of war. The court sentenced them to a total of three and a half years in prison.

Judge and trial chamber chairwoman Sanja Ivic said that the prosecution had proven the guilt of the defendants through witness testimonies and material evidence.

Tatarevic, a former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina and an escort of the Commander of the 108th Brigade of the Croatian Defence Council, is sentenced to two years of imprisonment for participating in the physical abuse of detained Serb civilians and prisoners of war. Tatarevic was found guilty of causing the detainees severe mental suffering, humiliation, and injuries to their health and bodily integrity.

Omazic, a former military policeman of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is sentenced to one and a half years of imprisonment for the torture and inhumane treatment of detainees in villages in the vicinity of Brcko.

Tatarevic and Omazic have the right to appeal the verdict with the Appellate Court of Brcko District.
