Cantonal Prosecutor Amra Ahmetlic said, in her closing statement, that Dedic should be pronounced guilty of having abused civilians, considering the fact that Prosecution witnesses’ testimonies were “consistent and trustworthy”.
“The examination of skeletal remains of Momcilo and Zdravko Subotic revealed multiple fractures of ribs, which could cause injuries to internal organs. The doctor, who examined the injured parties following their beating at the Police Station in Breza, confirmed that Momcilo Subotic ad such injuries that led to his death one day later,” Ahmetlic said.
The Prosecutor said that none of the pieces of the Defence’s evidence denied the allegations contained in the indictment and said that Dedic’s witnesses gave contradictory statements in which they tried to improve the indictee’s position.
The indictment charges Dedic with having participated in the beating of Serb civilians while gathering illegal weapons in Breza in June 1992.
Defence attorney Ramo Ajkic said, in his closing statement, that the Cantonal Prosecution discontinued the investigation due to a lack of evidence in 2011 and that, during the trial it did not present the document, which was the only new piece of evidence obtained since then.
“I am speaking about the minutes from the indictee’s identification by a Prosecution witness, which was conducted in an unlawful manner,” Ajkic said, adding that numerous Prosecution witnesses said lies and gave contradictory statements.
Indictee Dedic said that he did not commit the crimes charged upon him and that, during his 16-year work as a policeman he had never used physical force or a baton.
Teodor Gavric, an authorised representative of injured party Radoslav Subotic, addressed the Cantonal Court, saying that a verdict of conviction would be the only fair one for the victims.
The trial of Dedic began in October last year.
