At the trial for crimes in Visegrad, a statement from a recently deceased witness was read in Court in which he said that Jovan and Goran Popovic together with another man stole his son’s car.

Witness Ragib Fejzic said in a statement read by prosecutor Seid Marusic that in April 1992 he lived in Visegrad in fear. Together with other Bosniaks, the statement says, the witness fled to Gorazde but returned to Vusegrad.

Fejzic also said that the situation then worsened and that he saw two armed men – one of whom was called Stevo – take his nauighbour Hamed Kustura, whose body was never recovered.

Fejzic said he knew Jovan and Goran Popovic and that he saw them with another man stealing his son’s car.

The Bosnian prosecution charges Popovic with participation in the abuse, beating and torture of prisoners while he was a guard at the Uzamnica detention camp, as well as the sexual abuse of men and women.

Bosnian Serb forces detained Bosniak prisoners at the detention camp, a former military barracks.

Jovan Popovic was originally charged alongside Goran Popovic, but the elder man’s case was separated from his son’s due to illness. Both have denied the charges.

The Defence said if the witness were alive they would ask him to describe his son’s car.

The trial continues on October 8.
