Attorney Mirza Kovac said that, by presenting about twenty pieces of material evidence about detention of citizens in “a central concentration camp”, the Defence of indictee Avdovic wanted to prove that the Territorial Defence of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, TO of RBiH, or in fact its military police, arrested citizens and released them after examining them.
Also, it presented material evidence with which it wanted to prove that Ismet Bajramovic, Chief of military police, ordered Serb citizens into detention. Bajramovic was found dead in Sarajevo in 2008.
“The Prosecution should deal with this. How could a person be held in detention from May 15, 1992, while a criminal report against that person was written on July 26,” Kovac said.
The Prosecution objected to the lawfulness of the evidence, because, as said by Prosecutor Dzevad Muradbegovic, military police was not authorized to order people into custody in July 1992.
Ramiz Avdovic and Iulian-Nicolae Vintila are on trial for crimes committed in “Viktor Bubanj” and the Central Prison in Sarajevo. They are charged with having participated in the establishment and maintenance of a system for abuse of Serb civilians.
According to the charges, Avdovic was Commander of Guards on the fifth floor of the Central Prison in Sarajevo and former “Viktor Bubanj” military barracks, while Vintila was a cook and guard in the former barracks.
The trial is due to continue on May 21.
