Prosecution witnesses Vinko Juric and Zdravko Marcinko told the Sarajevo-based court on Friday they were detained at a school in Celebici then transferred to the improvised detention centre at the Musala sports centre at the end of May 1993, and were held there for about five months.
They said that the conditions for Serbs and Croats at Musala were terrible and that they were tortured by starvation.
Juric said that he saw the defendant Macic beat one prisoner. But, he added: Macic did not beat me personally.
Marcinko also said that the defandant, who he recognised in the courtroom, did not assault him, but said he was told by four other prisoners that Macic had beaten them.
He said that one of them, Ivica Stanic, later died, and that he assumed the beatings caused his death.
He also said that he was not allowed to go to the toilet for two or three days, and there were rumours that Macic ordered this.
Macic is charged with participating in the torture and sexual abuse of the prisoners in Musala from April until October 1993.
The trial will resume on March 21.
