The custody for Gazdic has been extended until July 17 out of concern that he might flee, a possibility that he might influence witnesses and accomplices and that he would present “a real threat to public order and peace” if released.

Gazdic has been held in custody since the end of April this year, after he was arrested at Klobuk international border-crossing.

The State Prosecution alleges that Gazdic “raped at least four non-Serb females”, including minors, “on several occasions” during the course of 1992.

“The Prosecution has learnt that one of the raped women was only 12 years old at that time. In addition, there is grounded suspicion that Gazdic committed the rapes by taking those persons out of the ‘Partizan’ sports hall, where mostly women and children were held. He then took them to a nearby apartment, where he raped them, using force,” said State Prosecutor Behaija Krnjic at a hearing held on May 17 this year.
