A defense witness testifying at the Jasmin Sehagic trial said he didn’t know about the existence of detention camps in Kakanj.
Defense witness and former police officer Nasid Agic told the cantonal court of Zenica that he wasn’t tasked with gathering information on detention camps in Kakanj.
Responding to questions from the defense, Agic said potential information on detention camps should have been forwarded to military security bodies. According to Agic, each brigade should have had an assistant commander for security, who should have sent reports directly to the corps commander.
Agic was unable to confirm which brigade operated in Kakanj during the war, whether detention camps existed in that town, and whether the Bosnian Army was informed of their existence.
Segahic, a former manager of a detention facility in the old directorate building of a coal mine in Kakanj, has been charged with participating in the torture of Croat detainees. The prosecution alleges Segahic failed to undertake necessary and reasonable measures to prevent the torture and report the perpetrators to his superiors.
The trial will continue on September 14.
