Vlacic, a former member of military police with the Bircanska Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army, has been charged with the murder and inhumane treatment of detainees in the “Lovac” facility in Sekovici.
According to the charges, Vlacic took three detained civilians from their prison cells and beat them to death. The indictment alleges that he then ordered a prisoner to carry their bodies back into the cells. Vlacic allegedly told the prisoner that he must not tell anyone about the killings.
The trial is expected to begin with a reading of the indictment, introductory statements and the examination of the first prosecution witness.
As stated at the pre-trial status conference, the District Prosecution in Eastern Sarajevo plans to examine 15 witnesses and present several pieces of material evidence. Prosecutor Tarik Crnkic said that he would need seven hearings to present their evidence.
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina filed the indictment against Vlacic on July 17 last year. The Bosnian State Court confirmed the indictment on July 30. Vlacic appeared before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and pleaded not guilty on September 9, 2014, after which the case was referred to the District Court in Eastern Sarajevo.
