New War Crimes Indictment in Bosnia

On Friday, the District Court in Eastern Sarajevo confirmed an indictment against Muhamed Adzem, Omer Ugljesa, Senad Halilovic and Suljo Karkelja, charging them with crimes against prisoners of war in 1992.

Never Kramer, Secretary of the District Prosecution in Eastern Sarajevo, said that the four former members of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina were charged with having participated in the murder of seven prisoners of war, members of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS.

The District Prosecution filed the indictment on October 13. The Court confirmed it two days later.

The indictees are defending themselves while at liberty after having spent six months in detention.

Bosnian Army Ex-Soldiers Jailed for Beating Prisoners

Former Bosnian Army soldiers Muhko and Safet Velagic were found guilty of committing war crimes against prisoners of war in the Bugojno area in July 1993. The Cantonal Court in Novi Travnik sentenced Muhko Velagic was sentenced to seven years in prison and Safet Velagic to six years for war crimes against prisoners of war.

Former policeman Mladjen Vasiljevic was sentenced to three years in prison for shooting a civilian dead in the Ribnik area in August 1992. The District Court in Banja Luka on Tuesday convicted ex-policeman Mladjen Vasiljevic of committing crimes against the civilian population in the Ribnik area.
