The retrial of Lavrnic was ordered after the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH, revoked a verdict acquitting him of charges for crimes against civilians in Kljuc in 1993.

According to the verdict pronounced by the Bihac Cantonal Court in October 2012, Lavrnic, former member of the 17th Kljuc Brigade of VRS, was acquitted of the charges for having come to Rejzovici hamlet on February 10, 1993 and having killed three and wounded one Bosniak civilian.

The Cantonal Prosecution in Bihac appealed the verdict due to violations of the criminal proceedings and wrongly and incompletely determined factual status, while Lavrnic’s Defence proposed that the Cantonal Prosecution’s appeal be rejected and first instance verdict confirmed.

Cantonal Prosecutor Jasmin Mesic said that the Prosecution would examine one witness during the retrial, while the Defence did not present its evidence presentation plan.
