Under the confirmed indictment filed by the Una-Sana Cantonal Prosecution, Tadic, former member of the Republika Srpska Army is charged with having participated in the murder of 23 persons in Duljak, Cukovi-Duliba and Orasac villages, Bihac municipality, in September 1992.
“After having killed the civilians, they put them on a pile, poured gas over the bodies and set them on fire. A couple of days later they collected the bodies from the crime scene and transferred them to the Duliba area in order to hide the crime,” the indictment alleges.
Most of the killed civilians were women and the elderly. According to the charges, thirteen-year old Aldina Vojic was the youngest victim.
The remains of seven victims were found in 2000, while the remaining bodies are still being searched for.
The Cantonal Court in Bihac previously sentenced five former members of the Republika Srpska Army to a total of 57-and-a-half years in prison for having committed the murders in Duljic.
The Bihac Cantonal Prosecution says that Svetko Tadic was not available to Bosnian state bodies for a long time, because he was hiding in Montenegro.
Police agencies located him after he had fled to Serbia. He was then examined via international legal aid at the Higher Court in Belgrade.
“A plea hearing will be scheduled now. In case the indictee fails to appear at the hearing, the Prosecution will propose, just like it did in the past, that the case be referred to the Serbian judicial bodies,” Cantonal Prosecutor Jasmin Mesic said.
