Local Justice – Ostojic: Trial Postponed

Information available to court police suggests that witness Seid Ambeskovic, who was supposed to testify at this hearing, is in Kuwait.
Zenaida Husic, Chairwoman of the Trial Chamber with the District Court in Eastern Sarajevo, said that the trial would be postponed until further notice, ordering Prosecutor Mirza Hukeljic to get in touch with witness Ambeskoviv’s family and find out when he will be in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to testify.
The latest information available to court police suggests that the witness is in Kuwait. His family informed the police that Ambeskovic might be back in March this year, Husic said.
The District Prosecution in Eastern Sarajevo charges Zarije Ostojic, former member of reserve police forces with the Special Unit of the Public Safety Station in Vlasenica, with having participated in the beating of civilians in Susica detention camp during 1992.
According to the charges, Ostojic, who was accompanied by other persons, took Bosniaks from Susica detention camp and beat them, using police sticks, gun butts, hands and legs.
The Trial Chamber Chairwoman said at this hearing that the Court was still awaiting information on when Defence witness Dragan Nikolic might be able to testify via video link.
Dragan Nikolic, known as Jenki, former Commander of Susica detention camp, was sentenced before The Hague Tribunal to 20 years in prison for war crimes in that detention camp. Nikolic, who is serving his sentence in Italy, should be examined via video link. A.S.
