A second instance verdict of the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Nedzad Oric, Hamed Salihovic and Azem Ahmic to one year and eight months of prison, respectively, for crimes they committed in Srebrenik in July 1995.

The Bosnian federation entity Supreme Court quashed a verdict under which Nedzad Oric was sentenced to four, and Hamed Salihovic and Azem Ahmic to one year in prison respectively for crimes in Srebrenik.

Appealing against a verdict for crimes in Srebrenik the Federal Prosecution requests the Court to sentence Hamed Salihovic and Azem Ahmic to more than one year in prison and confirm the four-year sentence against Nedzad Oric, while the Defence teams request the Court to quash the verdict.

During an appeals session held before the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, FBiH, in the case against three indictees charged with crimes in Srebrenik, the Prosecution calls for a longer sentence, while the Defence teams propose a verdict of acquittal or new trial.

Over the course of the past year the Prosecution of Tuzla Canton filed two indictments for war crimes committed in Smoluca village and Kalesija municipality.

The Cantonal Court in Tuzla sentences Nedzad Oric to three and Hamed Salihovic and Azem Ahmic to one year in prison each for crimes against the civilian population in Srebrenik.

The continuation of the trial of Hamed Salihovic, Nedzad Oric and Azem Ahmic before the Cantonal Court in Tuzla has been postponed as per a request by one of the Defence attorneys. The presentation of closing statements has been scheduled for September 12.

Testifying at the trial for crimes in Srebrenik, a court expert in psychiatry says that indictee Nedzad Oric had a reduced capability of judging his behaviour, when the crime was committed in July 1995.

As indictee Nedzad Oric fails to appear at the trial, the Chairwoman of the Trial Chamber with the Tuzla Cantonal Court gives an order to court police to apprehend him to the next hearing.
