The Supreme Court of the Bosnian Federation reduced the sentences of Milorad (Nenad) Cvijanovic, Svetomir Ilic, Vaso Ilic, and Milorad (Milan) Cvijanovic. The defendants were charged with committing crimes against prisoners of war in Smoluca, near Lukavac, in 1992.

The Federal Prosecution requests the Court to pronounce longer sentence against four suspects, whom the Tuzla Cantonal Court sentenced to a total of 18-and-a-half years in prison for crimes against prisoners of war in Smoluca, Lukavac municipality, while the Defence requests quashing of the verdict.

Four former Bosnian Serb Army soldiers were sentenced to a total of 18-and-a-half years in prison for abusing prisoners of war in the village of Smoluca near Tuzla in 1992.

After the Defence teams of four defendants for crimes against prisoners of war in Smoluca (municipality of Lukavac) asked for a not guilty verdict in their closing arguments, the Cantonal court in Tuzla scheduled the verdict for March 5 this year.

Testifying at the trial for crimes in the Lukavac area before the Cantonal Court in Tuzla, State Prosecution witness Nadil Poljakovic says that indictee Vaso Ilic used to bring masked soldiers who hit him and other prisoners with wooden bats.

The continuation of the trial for mistreatment of prisoners of war, former members of the Territorial Defence, in Smoluca, Lukavac municipality, before the Cantonal Court in Tuzla has been postponed due to absence of one of the indictees.

As the trial for crimes committed in Smoluca, Lukavac municipality, continues before the Cantonal Court in Tuzla, three witnesses, who previously gave different statements concerning mistreatment of members of the Territorial Defence, face each other.

During the confrontation of Defence witnesses and Nadil Poljakovic at the trial for the mistreatment of prisoners of war of the Territorial Defence, TO, in Smoluca, Lukavac municipality, before the Cantonal Court in Tuzla, the Defence witnesses deny Poljakovics testimony of March 25 this year.

Defence witnesses told the Cantonal court in Tuzla that detained members of the Territorial defence of Tinja were not detained in the Smoluca prison.

As the trial before Tuzla Cantonal Court continues, defence witnesses testified that there was no harassment or mistreatment of detained members of the Tinja Territorial Defence in Smoluca prison (Lukavac Municipality), noting that they were detained in a room that met the requirements in line with available capacities.
