The prosecution announced on March 13 that it has charged Jasmin Keserovic with having gone to Turkey in early 2013 and then illegally to Syria with the intention of joining the so-called Islamic State.

According to the charges, after having joined Islamic State forces, whose members terrorised the population on a daily basis through armed attacks, murders, unlawful detentions, taking hostages and other acts, Keserovic participated alongside other individuals from Bosnia and Herzegovina in terrorist activities.

The indictment alleges that he provided help and fought in the Syrian towns of Haritan, Manbij, Raqqa and al-Bab as a member of the Bejt Komandos unit, which was later renamed El Aksa.

The prosecution said that this continued until the defeat of so-called Islamic State in late 2019, when he surrendered and was deported and handed over to the Bosnian judicial authorities.

The indictment alleges that during his stay in Syria, while wearing a uniform and armed with an automatic rifle, the defendant recorded and distributed a video in which he called for the killings of Christians, directly inciting others to commit acts of terrorism, the prosecution alleged.

Keserovic was transferred to Bosnia and Herzegovina by plane together with six other people in December 2019. Indictments have also been filed charging two of the others, Armen Dzelko and Jasmin Kasupovic, with fighting in Syria.

The four others, Muharem Dunic, Emir Alisic, Miralem Berbic and Hamza Labidi, are also suspected of fighting abroad, and the state court has remanded them all in custody.
