The state prosecution said on March 13 that it has filed an indictment alleging that Senad Kasupovic left Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 12, 2013 and travelled to Turkey, then illegally crossed the border into Syria, where he joined so-called Islamic State forces.

It claimed that he remained in Syria “for six years, until December 19, 2019”.

“Under the name Muatesim, together with other people from Bosnia and Herzegovina who were in Syria with the same intention, he participated in terrorist activities, provided assistance and fought for so-called ISIL in Syria as member of the Bejt Komandos Unit, which was later renamed El Aksa,” the prosecution said in a statement.

In December 2019, Kasupovic was flown back to Bosnia and Herzegovina together with six other people. An indictment has also been filed against another of them, Armen Dzelko, charging him with organising a terrorist group and fighting in Syria.

The others – Muharem Dunic, Emir Alisic, Miralem Berbic, Jasmin Keserovic and Hamza Labidi – are also suspected of fighting abroad. The state court has remanded them all in custody.
