Mehmed Alesevic Fails to Appear in Court, Allegedly in Poor Health

A medical court expert was expected to present her findings and opinion on the defendant’s health at today’s hearing. However, the conference was postponed due to his absence.
Alesevic’s defense attorney said the defendant was in poor health and in Slovenia undergoing medical treatment.
Prosecutor Vedrana Mijovic said the expert examination had been conducted on the basis of information provided by the defendant’s wife, requesting the court to order an examination of the defendant by a team of experts.
The trial chamber requested that the defendant’s complete medical documentation be submitted to the state prosecution.
“The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina will contact the hospital in Slovenia in order to see whether he can appear in court. You can either send SIPA [the State Investigation and Protection Agency] or go to Slovenia personally,” trial chamber chair Darko Samardzic said.
Alesevic has been charged along with co-defendants Zijad Nanic, Esad Kudelic, Vahid Bajraktarevic, Senad Salkic, Hasan Mustafic, Nedzad Bapic, Samir Isakovic and Husein Isakovic with the inhumane treatment of prisoners of war and civilians held in the former Radoc Hotel in Buzim from November 1994 to August 1995.
The next hearing will be held on March 1.
