Mario Frimel Trial Postponed Due to Defendant’s Absence
The Mario Frimel trial has been postponed due to the defendant’s failure to appear at today’s hearing. Frimel has been charged with war crimes in Sarajevo.
Jasenko Ruzic, trial chamber chair with the cantonal court of Sarajevo, said defense attorney Mithat Koco informed him that the defendant was absent.
Frimel, the former commander of the Ivan Krndelj Squad of the Bosnian Army, has been charged with unlawfully arresting, physically abusing and mentally mistreating Serb civilians in the Hrasno neighbourhood of Sarajevo.
According to the indictment, at the beginning of October 1992 Frimel and other members of the Ivan Krndelj Squad brought Serb civilians to a shopping center, where they abused them.
The trial will continue on February 3.
