The state prosecution has called for a prison sentence for former military police officer Mato Condric, who’s been charged with rape and prisoner abuse in Bosanski Brod.
Mato Condric, a former member of the military police of the Croatian Defense Council, has been charged with allowing two unidentified Croatian Defense Council members rape a woman in the boiler room of the Polet football stadium in Bosanski Brod in late July or early August 1992.
According to the charges, Condric pointed a gun at the victim and sexually abused and humiliated her after her rape.
In his closing statement, prosecutor Milanko Kajganic said all of the allegations contained in the indictment have been proven.
He said it had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Condric served as a military police officer and member of the 102nd Brigade of the Croatian Defense Council.
Condric’s defense had claimed that the defendant had been wrongly accused, and mistaken for another man with the same name.
“When it comes to the defendant’s identity, witness N.H. identified him in six photos and described him. She said she learned his first and last name from other women who were detained in the Polet stadium. She identified the defendant in the courtroom on March 11, 2015,” Kajganic said.
Kajganic said there was no way that the identity of the perpetrator could be incorrect, because Marko Mitric, an injured party in the case, identified Condric in photos and a protected witness known as MC-3 identified him in the courtroom.
“There is no doubt that this is the man the indictment refers to,” Kajganic said.
He said other witnesses also confirmed statements given by injured parties N.H. and Marko Mitric.
Kajganic called upon the court to hand down a guilty verdict and a prison sentence against Condric.
The defense will present its closing statement on August 21.
