Dzevad Dulic, a former member of the 510th Bosnian Liberation Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army, has been charged with the rape of a woman in the Cazin area, along with two other persons, in December 1993.

Dzevad Dulic, a witness for the prosecution (no relation to the defendant), said he served in the same unit as the defendant. He said their unit held a front line in Beganovici in December 1993.

Dulic said he was in Beganovici for four to five hours, and left when he heard that his brother was in the hospital.

He said he heard about the Dzevad Dulic trial from the media, and said he also heard rumours about the alleged rape.

“Vuk said it was you, that it wasn’t him,” Dulic said, citing the rumours were said about him. He said he contacted the defendant to find out the truth.

Ismet Kurtovic, a former member of the Bosnian Army, said that he was 90 percent sure he saw the defendant in Beganovici in December 1993.

Kurtovic confirmed that there was another Dzevad Dulic in the defendant’s unit, but said he didn’t see him there at the time.

“I know he was there but his brother was injured,” Kurtovic said.

Jasmin Alibabic, another member of the Bosnian Army, said the defendant was in a unit which held a line in Beganovici. He said they greeted each other in the village. According to Alibabic, the other Dzevad Dulic left the village within half an hour since his brother was injured.

Omer Brkic also testified at this hearing. He said he saw the defendant in
several places during the war and said two men named Dzevad Dulic served in the same unit.

The trial continues on May 29.
