The Ilija Juric trial began with a reading of the indictment and the presentation of the state prosecution’s introductory statement before the Bosnian state court.
Prosecutor Miroslav Janjic said the state prosecution would prove that Juric, a former member of the 102nd Brigade of the Croatian Defense Council, deliberately committed crimes against civilians in the Odzak area in 1992.
According to the charges, on the night of June 4 or 5, 1992, Juric raped a Serb woman in Posavska Mahala in the municipality of Odzak. The indictment alleges that Marijan Brnjic, Martin Barukcic, Pavo Glavas, and Ilija Glavas, who are defendants in a separate case at the state court, also participated in the rape and abuse of the same woman.
Juric is also charged with intercepting Darinka and Nada Lesic in June 1992, and physically mistreating their children by banging their heads against a pole.
The third count in the indictment charges Juric with having hit Ljubica Lesic’s son Goran in the chest in front of Drago Ninkovic’s house on June 4, 1992.
The defense did not present its introductory statement at this hearing.
The first Bosnian state prosecution witness will be examined on July 1.
