The former soldiers, Ranko Rakic, Zeljko Rakic, and Marko Stankovic, have been charged with killing Zuhra Husanovic in the village of Kucice, near Zavidovic, in the summer of 1992.

According to the charges, the defendants came to the Husanovic family home, where they beat one man. The defendants then allegedly took his wife [Zuhra Husanovic], daughter and granddaughter in the direction of a hill. A gunshot was heard from that direction a short time later. Gunfire was heard after their departure, and Zuhra Husanovic’s body was found later on.

The prosecution proposed that another witness be questioned about the distribution of military units, since the defense alleged that Husanovic was killed by gunshots from combat positions.

The defense said it would invite eight witnesses to testify and would examine the three defendants.

The trial will continue on April 27.
