Trial on Srebrenica Genocide Begins Next Week

On Thursday, April 2, the trial of five defendants charged with genocide in Srebrenica in 1995, will begin at the Bosnian state court. The defendants are Miodrag Josipovic, Branimir Tesic, Dragomir Vasic, Danilo Zoljic and Radomir Pantic. They’ve been charged with assisting in the forcible resettlement of the local population from Srebrenica, as well as the separation, capture and execution of men and boys in Bratunac, Srebrenica, and Zvornik.
On Wednesday, April 1, the trial of Mile Puljic will begin. Puljic has been charged with war crimes against the Bosniak population in the Mostar area.
On Tuesday, March 31, the retrial of Milan Kornjaca will begin at the appellate chamber of the Bosnian state court. Kornjaca has been charged with war crimes in Cajnice.
On Monday, March 30, Dragan Maksimovic is expected enter his plea at the Bosnian state court. Maksimovic has been indicted for war crimes in the village of Caparde in the municipality of Osmaci. Maksimovic, who lives in Serbia, failed to appear at the last plea hearing.
On Tuesday, March 31, Iulian-Nicolae Vintila will testify in his own defense. Vintila and Ramiz Avdovic have been charged with committing war crimes at the Viktor Bubanj military barracks in Sarajevo.
On Friday, April 3, Safet Mujcinovic, who has been charged with war crimes in Kladanj, will continue testifying in his defense. He is on trial along with Zijad Hamzic, Selman Busnov, Nusret Muhic, Ramiz Halilovic, Nedzad Hodzic, Osman Gogic and Kahro Vejzovic.
On Monday, March 30, Senad Hakalovic’s defense will present its closing statement. Hakalovic has been charged with crimes in Trusina, near Konjic. Hakalovic has been charged with four other members of the Zulfikar Squad: Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin, Nedzad Hodzic and Nihad Bojadzic.
On Wednesday, April 1, Goran Popovic’s defense will present its closing statement. Popovic has been indicted for war crimes in Visegrad.
On Friday, April 3, the defense of Ibro Macic will also present its closing statement. Macic has been accused of war crimes in Konjic.
On Thursday, April 2, the trial chamber in the Nedzad Hodzic trial will decide on the course of the trial proceedings. Hodzic has been charged with war crimes in Mount Igman. At a hearing held in the beginning of March, the case of Nedzad Hodzic was separated from the case of Dzevad Salcin, pending a decision on Hodzic’s ability to follow the trial.
On Thursday, April 2, the first witness will testify in defense of Mustafa Djelilovic, who has been indicted for war crimes in Hadzici. Djelilovic, Fadil Covic, Mirsad Sabic, Nezir Kazic, Becir Hujic, Halid Covic, Serif Mesanovic and Nermin Kalember have been charged with committing war crimes at the Silos detention camp, the Krupa military barracks, and the 9 Maj school building.
On Wednesday, March 31, a pre-status conference will be held in the case of Ilija Juric, who has been charged with committing war crimes in the Odzak area in 1992.
On Friday, April 3, a pre-status conference will be held in the case of fourteen defendants accused of having participated in the murder of Bosniak civilians in Zevoci, near Prijedor, in July 1992. The defendants are Dusan Milunic, Radomir Stojnic, Radovan Cetic, Dusko Zoric, Zoran Stojnic, Zeljko Grbic, Ilija Zoric, Zoran Milunic, Bosko Grujicic, Ljubisa Cetic, Rade Grujcic, Uros Grujcic, Zdravko Antonic and Rajko Gnjatovic.
In the week ahead trials will also continue for crimes in other towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
