The appeals chamber confirmed the convicting portion of the verdict from May last year, when Kornjaca was sentenced to five years in prison for taking part in illegal detention and beatings of Bosniak civilians who were detained in the metal container in Mostina, near Cajnice in April and May 1992.

With the same decision, the appeals chamber quashed the parts which acquitted former commander of the “Blue Eagles” unit Kornjaca of assisting the murders of civilians.

Kornjaca was freed of the charges of failing to punish Veljo Tadic – who killed 27 civilians in the Lovacki Dom on May 19, 1992 and assisting the killings of civilians from Brdo.

The retrial for these two counts will begin soon.

Kornjaca’s trial started in January 2011.
