Investigator Davor Fuks was invited to explain why he corrected certain data on the first page of the report, using correction fluid, during the examination of witness Islam Kustura. Both the Chamber and Defence found this correction disputable at the last hearing, when Kustura testified.
“The disputable thing is the correction of the report, as some data were erased using correction fluid. (…) The witness mentioned some other suspects and witnesses, including Budimir Kovacevic, among others,” Fuks said.
He said that he made a mistake by not signing his name next to the corrections.
When asked by Prosecutor Dzevad Muratbegovic how the mistake happened, the witness said that the conditions in which the statement was taken were very bad.
“We corrected it with correction fluid, because we could not print it again,” Fuks explained.
When asked by Defence attorney Petko Pavlovic why he did not print the new report, the witness said that both the printer and laptop operated on batteries, so there were no conditions for doing it.
The Prosecution of BiH charges Petar Kovacevic, former member of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, with having participated in murders, rape and unlawful arrests of civilians in Visegrad, including the murder of Mujo Gacko in Dobrun village, in late May 1992.
According to the charges, he participated, together with a group of armed soldiers, in an attack against the Bosniak population in Zlatnik, Turjak and Zanozje villages, when two civilians were killed from fire arms and houses, in which three women were burnt, were set on fire by projectiles fired from fire arms.
The Prosecution completed the presentation of material evidence by presenting a death registry record for Ibrahim Kustura and Ahmet Mutapcic, as well as decisions, declaring the state of war and strategic goals of the Serb people in BiH.
The Defence proposed the examination of 15 witnesses and presentation of a certain number of material evidence.
The trial is due to continue on February 9.
