Witness Andjelko Cvjetkovic said that Mladjenovic was a neighbour of his and that he had known him his whole life.
“As far as I know, he is a good and honest man. He has always been like that,” Cvjetkovic said.
He told the Court that, right before the breakout of the military conflicts he evacuated his family from Donji Magasici village to his sister’s in Serbia. According to the witness’ testimony, he went to Serbia to pick them up and bring them back home on May 2, 1992.
“I stayed in Serbia overnight. On May 3 we headed back to our village via Bratunac, Repovac and Hranca,” the witness said.
He said that they were stopped on a barricade in Repovci in the afternoon hours and that they were told to wait, because “something is happening in Muslim Hranca”.
Passing through Hranca village, he saw several Muslim houses on fire.
“At the entrance to Donji Magasici I saw a group of people, including Mladjenovic, standing in front of Najdan’s house. They did not know what to do. They were concerned, scared,” the witness said.
He said that the men were dressed in civil suits and that they did not have walkie-talkies.
When he drove his family home, he went back and saw “the same group of men, standing next to Najdan Mladjenovic’s house”.
Mladjenovic and Savo Zivkovic are charged with having committed crimes against humanity, including unlawful arrests and physical and mental abuse of the Bosniak civilian population and destruction of their property within a widespread and systematic attack on Hranca and Glogova villages, Bratunac municipality, on May 3 and 9, 1992.
The indictment alleged that Mladjenovic was Commander of the Territorial Defence in Bratunac, while Zivkovic was member of that unit.
Witness Cvjetkovic said that he did not know what happened a few days later, or more precisely on May 9.
The trial is due to continue on October 8.
