The continuation of the trial for crimes in Vares before the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo has been postponed due to the absence of indictee Ermin Curtic.

Nedim Dobojic, Defence attorney of Curtic, said that he spoke to the indictee over the phone and that he informed him that he could not make it to the hearing, because the traffic was stopped due to a car accident.

Curtic is on trial again for having committed war crimes in Vares. The retrial was ordered after the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina had quashed a first instance verdict, sentencing him to five-and-a-half years.

The verdict was quashed at the end of last year. The case was returned to the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo for retrial.

According to the charges, in his capacity as guide to a part of the “Maturice” Unit of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, Curtic hit and robbed civilians following an attack on Stupni Do village on October 23, 1993.

The trial is due to continue on June 25.
