Silos: One Slap

During the cross-examination witness Slavoljub Krivic said that, following his arrival in Silos in May 1992, he was not beaten, but he was “slapped” once by guard Zaim Saric. As he explained, Becir Hujic protected him on that occasion.

The witness further mentioned that guard Nermin Kalember had never hit him or caused him any problems.

“Kalember helped me heartily, when we chopped trees. He loaded them with me. Also, he would bring some bread into our cell,” the witness said.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Hujic and Kalember, along with Mustafa Djelilovic, Fadil Covic, Mirsad Sabic, Nezir Kazic, Halid Covic and Serif Mesanovic with crimes committed in the Silos detention camp, Krupa military barracks and 9. maj school building.

The indictment alleges that Becir Hujic was Manager and Deputy Manager of the Silos detention camp, just like Halid Covic. Kalember was a guard in Silos, while the other indictees were members of police, military and civil authorities.

Speaking about his stay in the Krupa warehouse, the witness said that he was not mistreated in that building either.

He said that all detainees used to be taken to Sarajevo and Hrasnica, but he did not know who escorted them to those places.

“When they took us to Sarajevo, they would tie our hands and blindfold us in the Silos kitchen. A guard would tie our hands. As we were blindfolded, I could not see who escorted us. Unknown people escorted us to Hrasnica,” Krivic said.

He mentioned that the local residents of Resnik village, Hadzici municipality had weapons. He said that Dane Cicic gave him a rifle and 80 bullets in May 1992, but he handed the rifle over later on.

As he said, some men in camouflage uniforms arrested him on May 10, 1992, but he did not know whether they were members of the Territorial Defence or the police.

“At that time policemen too were dressed in camouflage uniforms,” the witness explained.
