In his written analysis the Prosecution’s expert witness expressed a dilemma on whether an order of April 12, 1993, transferring the Zulfikar Squad from the Main Command Headquarters to the First Corps, which was also part-composed of the Igman Operational Group, was carried out or not.

However, he said that he put an end to his doubts after having reviewed “additional documents”. The Trial Chamber said that it did not know “what additional documents” he was referring to, so it announced that it would question him about them.

“It is obvious that the Squad was subordinate to, or made part of the First Corps, which then attached it to Igman Operational Group,” expert witness Ganic said, responding to questions made by Edina Residovic, Defence attorney of indictee Nihad Bojadzic.

The expert witness agreed with Defence attorney that the best way to determine whether the order on the subordination of the Squad was by reviewing the combat reports of the First Corps and the Igman Operational Group.

According to the charges, while participating in the attack on Trusina village, the Zulfikar Squad was part of the Main Command Headquarters of ABiH, which was led by Sefer Halilovic.

The expert witness testified at the trial of Nihad Bojadzic, Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin, Nedzad Hodzic and Zulfikar Alispago, former members of the Zulfikar Squad, and Senad Hakalovic, former member of the Neretvica Brigade.

Alispago is charged with having “failed to undertake the necessary and reasonable measures to punish the crime perpetrators”, in his capacity as Commander of the Zulfikar Squad.

The expert witness said that the Commander’s responsibility was to investigate the crime in order to punish the perpetrators or inform his superiors, in case he was not able to do it.

“Least ways he will inform somebody and remove his responsibility,” Ganic said.

The expert witness further said that he could not confirm with certainty that the Zulfikar Squad were “the protagonists of activities” in Trusina, although he did say that when he began presenting his findings and opinion on November 5.

The examination of Ganic is due to continue on Monday, November 19.
