Dobrovoljacka Street Investigation Against 14 Persons Discontinued

“The decision to discontinue the investigation against the mentioned suspects, which has been made following an expansive investigation, is based on 352 witnesses’ statements and 412 pieces of material evidence, including documents, video recordings, intercepted conversations and other evidence material,” the State Prosecution’s announcement reads.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina says that the investigation into the murder of 7 and wounding of 14 people in Dobrovoljacka Street continues.

“The investigation related to those actions will continue due to existence of grounds for suspicion that a war crime was committed, because fire was opened at the victims, after they had been made unable to fight or while they were inside an ambulance,” the Prosecution announced.

As stated in the State Prosecution’s announcement, during the course of the investigation it was determined that, following their capture, some of the soldiers in the Yugoslav National Army, JNA convoy were taken to “FIS” building, the Central Prison and Territorial Defence Headquarters and that those prisoners were abused and mistreated inside those buildings. The Prosecution said that the investigation into those actions would be continued.

Besides the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the War Crimes Prosecution of Serbia is conducting an investigation into the murders in Dobrovoljacka Street. Ejup Ganic and Jovan Divjak were arrested, as per arrest warrants issued by Serbia, in Great Britain and Austria respectively on suspicion that they participated in the crime in Dobrovoljacka Street. However, courts in those two countries refused to extradite Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens to Serbia.

This decision can be subject to an appeal.
