In this edition of Detektor magazine, we expose fake donor organisations and individuals from Uganda who send messages in Bosnian to people in Bosnia and Herzegovina to elicit donations for alleged iftar meals for starving children.

It’s hard to remain indifferent when you see photographs of children who look malnourished, dirty and poorly clothed. We spoke with people who sent money in the hope of helping such children. Due to a lack of media literacy and a lack of familiarity with internet scams, as well the fact that online material like this isn’t being taken down, many were duped. We contacted the scammers – who also tried to convince us to send them money.

Experts warn that artificial intelligence has opened a new chapter in the history of warfare through the manipulation of facts, and this can result in the exploitation of the media for propaganda purposes.
