Novinari Detektora svake sedmice pišu newslettere o protekloj i sedmici koja nas očekuje. Donose detalje iz redakcije, iskrene reakcije na priče i kontekst o događajima koji oblikuju našu stvarnost.

This post is also available in: Bosnian

In this edition of Detektor magazine, we expose fake donor organisations and individuals from Uganda who send messages in Bosnian to people in Bosnia and Herzegovina to elicit donations for alleged iftar meals for starving children.

It’s hard to remain indifferent when you see photographs of children who look malnourished, dirty and poorly clothed. We spoke with people who sent money in the hope of helping such children. Due to a lack of media literacy and a lack of familiarity with internet scams, as well the fact that online material like this isn’t being taken down, many were duped. We contacted the scammers – who also tried to convince us to send them money.

Mladic’s Death Sparked Glorification and Denial – But No Reaction from Bosnia’s Prosecution
The glorification of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic – at rallies, torch-lit gatherings and displays of his photograph in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as at his funeral in Serbia – has spilled over into social media, with posts portraying him as a hero. Members of the public have filed complaints about this, while war survivors have been living in fear, but the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina has remained silent, as if a law regulating this issue doesn’t exist.
