Photos and videos on social media showing attacks in the Middle East are becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from genuine images, because many of them are not real, but generated with the help of artificial intelligence. An additional problem is that such content has found its way into the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it has been republished without its authenticity being verified.

Experts warn that artificial intelligence has opened up a new chapter in warfare, one in which not only territory but truth is being exploited. AI-generated material has become so convincing that it is almost impossible to recognise it with the naked eye, spreading misinformation and deepening distrust in the media.
