The cantonal court in Sarajevo found Gojkovic guilty on Thursday of crimes against civilians in the Grbavica district in 1992.

According to the verdict, Gojkovic was an accomplice of paramilitary fighter Veselin Vlahovic, alias ‘Batko’, who has already been convicted of wartime crimes in Grbavica, Vraca and Kovacici in Sarajevo.

Vlahovic was sentenced to 42 years for killing 35 people, raping 11 women, and abusing, torturing and robbing Bosniaks and Croats from May to July 1992.

Gojkovic denied he committed the rape but presiding judge Husein Delalic said that the prosecution witnesses were credible so there was no doubt that he was the perpetrator.

“The documents showing how witnesses recognised the defendant were also credible, as was the statement by the rape victim,” said Delalic.

After the verdict, Gojkovic was ordered into custody.

The victim was told that she would have to file a civil lawsuit in order to claim compensation.

The verdict can be appealed at the Federation supreme court.
