Witness in Krsmanovic Trial Says He Transported Injured Party to Rogatica

Krsmanovic, a former member of the Bosnian Serb Army, has been charged with beating Muhidin Kapo, a Bosniak civilian from the Rogatica area on July 7, 1992, with another member of the Bosnian Serb Army. The indictment alleges that Krsmanovic and the other soldier threatened to kill the civilian while transporting him to Sokolac. They allegedly removed the civilian from the car with the intention of killing him, but decided not to. The civilian was transferred to the Rasadnik detention camp in Rogatica later on.
Novak Dzida, a former member of the public safety station in Rogatica, testified for the district prosecution of Eastern Sarajevo at today’s hearing. Dzida recalled having apprehended Muhidin Kapo as per orders he received. In July 1992, Dzida said he transported Kapo from the police station in Sokolac to Rogatica with a colleague.
“He [Kapo] limped on one leg. We put him into the car and drove him to Rogatica,” Dzida said. He said he couldn’t remember whether they tied up Kapo or not.
Dzida said they drove on a bad macadam road and got a flat tire twice. He said two persons took Kapo into custody after they arrived at a temporary station in Rasadnik.
“Kapo said something about problems with local residents and said he fell down,” Dzida said.
During cross-examination, Dzida said he heard about Kapo’s injury later on, claiming he “ran into a fence somewhere.” Dzida said he couldn’t remember whether he mentioned Krsmanovic or not.
The trial will continue on February 15.
