The defendants allegedly killed civilian Midhat Dzananovic and injured his son, Meho Dzananovic, in the village of Starcici in August 1992.

On March 24, 2014, the defendants were acquitted of charges that they had killed Midhat Dzananovic and injured Meho Dzananovic in collaboration with another unidentified perpetrator. The verdict was repealed by the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska, which referred the case back to the district court of Eastern Sarajevo.

Speaking on behalf of the defendants, defense attorney Radivoje Lazarevic said he had contacted court medical expert Zorica Lazarevic. He said Lazarevic had agreed to assess Meho Dzananovic’s attention span, ability to focus and mental activity, among other things.

The prosecution objected to the defense’s proposal to have Meho Dzananovic’s health examined, claiming the expert examination was unnecessary. Defense attorney Radivoje Lazarevic said it would be difficult to make the injured party available to the expert witness. The trial chamber said proposed to undergo an expert examination of their health needed to give voluntary consent.

The trial chamber suggested that the expert witness contact the injured party.

As per a request by the prosecution, expert witness Alma Bravo-Mehmedbasic presented her findings at the last hearing. She said Meho Dzananovic was capable of testifying.

At the beginning of the hearing, the defense presented two pieces of material evidence: a list of identified Bosniak civilians who were killed by the Rogaticka Brigade, and a list of victims in the municipality of Rogatica, which did not contain Midhat Dzananovic’s name.

The trial has been postponed until further notice.
